Periodontics (gums)
Unfortunately, periodontal (gum) disease can lead to more than just an unsightly smile—it can cause loss of teeth and eventually, if left untreated, serious health problems called gingivitis. In its early stages, periodontal disease is caused by excessive toxic bacteria (found in plaque) that attack your mouth’s soft tissues. Early warning signs of the disease include bad breath, red, swollen, bleeding gums. If caught early, we can help stop the progression; if detected late, we can use one of many effective cosmetic dentistry procedures to restore your mouth to a healthy, beautiful state. For more information, please contact our office today.

Crowns (also called caps)
These restorations are natural-looking covers that fit snugly over teeth to conceal cracked, badly discolored, injured or chipped teeth. Crowns provide support to damaged teeth. Ultimately, crowns can improve the overall appearance of your smile while making your teeth more resistant to injury. For more information about crowns, please contact us today.

Veneers
An excellent alternative to crowns, veneers can perfect your smile by masking stains, hiding chips, correcting misalignment, and creating uniformity. Veneers, which are made of thin, customized material designed to slide over the teeth, look incredibly natural, are long-lasting, and are relatively easy to apply. Please contact us today to find out more about veneers.

Bridges
Sometimes a bit more work is needed to give you the smile you want. If you are missing teeth, having trouble speaking or chewing, and noticing strain when biting, bridges may be the ideal procedure to help make your mouth healthy and beautiful again. A bridge is a restoration that fills the gap between teeth by filling them with strong, natural-looking artificial teeth. To find out if a bridge is the right option for you, please contact us today.

Root Canal Therapy
Each of our teeth contains a long, thin strand of dental pulp—which provides the tooth with nutrients and nerves—that extends down to the tooth’s root. If the pulp becomes infected or injured, the tooth’s nerves die, causing the tooth to appear dark. Root canals are designed to save such damaged teeth. During the procedure (performed under anesthesia), a small opening is drilled into the tooth’s crown and pulp chamber, diseased pulp is removed and reshaped. The tooth now becomes brittle and weak requiring a crown. The tooth is permanently sealed with a gold, porcelain, or tooth-colored crown. To learn more about root canals, please contact us today.

Extractions
Removing a painful tooth is always a last resort. Dr. Leifeste will present every possible alternative to save your teeth. At times, teeth cannot be saved. Teeth may need to be removed for the following reasons: periodontal disease, fractures, extensive decay, impactions (wisdom teeth) and/or for orthodontic purposes. With modern dentistry, we can replace missing teeth with implants, bridges or dentures. We will work hard to minimize your anxiety and restore your smile to a healthy state. Metal Free Dentistry
Times and dentistry have changed. When it comes to your teeth and health your should consider metal free dentistry. Today silver mercury (metal) amalgams are occasionally used. If you have old metal fillings they can expand and contract with temerature changes. Old fillings can also cause movement and cracks, developing a space between the tooth wall and the filling allowing bacteria to enter and cause more decay. There is no safe level of mercury. There is some controversy over the hazards of amalgams with studies that show that they can leak mercury toxins for up to 20 years. Composite (tooth colored) fillings contain no mercury as with metal fillings and will not crack your natural teeth. There are many different reasons for choosing composite fillings including potential safety, strength, and appearance.

Tooth-Colored Fillings
Gone are the days when tooth ailments and cavities could only be treated with unsightly metal fillings. Today, modern, tooth-colored fillings made of durable resin or porcelain can be bonded to your teeth for a stronger, more natural-looking effect. These revolutionary fillings are virtually undetectable and are easy to apply. To find out if tooth-colored fillings are a good option for you, please contact us today.

Bonding
A smile can be dulled by stained, chipped, cracked or misaligned teeth, but bonding can quickly and painlessly restore your smile’s natural beauty. During the procedure, a thin layer of plastic or resin is painted over the damaged teeth, strengthening them and making them virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. To find out if bonding is the right option for you, please contact us today.

Dentures and Partials
Full Dentures
Dentures are an excellent option for people who have lost all their teeth. Precisely designed and molded to fit one’s mouth, full dentures slide over the gums and are held in place with strong cheek and mouth muscles. They allow for comfortable chewing and keep the mouth and its surrounding features in proper alignment. To learn more about full dentures, please contact us today.

Removable/ Partial Dentures
Removable or partial dentures fill gaps left by missing teeth. Partial dentures are held in place with metal clasps or precision devices (tooth-colored, discreet clasps) that are attached to natural teeth. Usually made of resin or metal, partial dentures allow more comfortable and effective chewing, improve speech, and prevent sagging of the cheeks and lips. To find out if partial dentures are right for you, please contact us today.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ or TMD)
Problems involving the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint) located just below the ear are commonly referred to as TMJ or TMD. Patients suffering with TMJ problems may experience headaches, pain in the jaw joints or surrounding muscles, a jaw that locks open or closed, a bite that changes uncomfortably, or difficulty chewing, speaking, swallowing, or eating. TMJ therapy is customized to fit each patient’s individual TMJ disorder. Our practice offers a variety of surgical and non-surgical options to treat TMJ problems. If you are suffering with TMJ symptoms, please contact us for more information about the TMJ treatments that we offer or to schedule a consultation.
